Milano's
Glacier, submitted by Doug Hagen

Most places we eat at after coming out of "them thar hills" are... well...... just ok. I mean that I wouldn't necessarily eat there if the restaurant was a block from my house. But they serve a much needed function; they serve food that's NOT freeze dried! However, once in a while we come across a place that actually has delicious food. Milano's, in Glacier, Wa. is such a place.

The majority of their dishes are Italian but it's not just a heap of noodles with tomato soup on top. NO! During a recent visit I had the ravioli special with mushrooms, artichoke hearts and vodka (!) in a tomato cream sauce. It was delicious. And the pasta was definitely hand made. Another climber got the eggplant parmesan, of which I had a bite or three, and it was hard to know which was better. Also on our table was a dish of noodles with lot's of garlic, olives & tomatoes. Yum! And you can order the lasagna with or without meat.

They also have good salads, sandwiches, wines, beer and, maybe best of all, amazingly tasty desserts! The tiramisu was delicious and home-made but the big winner was the cappuccino chocolate torte. A flurry of forks, a chorus of grunts... and it was gone. WOW!

Milano's is located at 9990 Mt. Baker Hwy. (Hwy 542) right in the little town of Glacier just minutes from the mountain. Their phone # is 360-599-2863. Give them a try!
