Say you've just been out burnin' calories skiing Smithbrook Road, or doing your yearly climb on Mt Baring... you could have an appetite worthy of a real mountain man, (or woman). My favorite HWY 2 feedin' hole is the Mountain View Diner on the East end of Gold Bar.
The food is good ol' burgers, tuna melts, fries, and plenty of coffee, and its really done up right. Its clean and friendly... a good mix of local mountain folk and Seattle yuppie day hikers, and the price is definitely right. For ten bucks you can stuff yourself on a burger, milkshake, and enough coffee to keep you jabbering to the driver all the way home. Or if you've really got that mountain man appetite, there's no substitute for the "terribly large" giant chicken burger! I've had it before... its pretty dang big. So when you're out exploring Blanca Lake and the Columbia glacier... stop on in and have some pie.
