The Bushwhacker Climbing Club is proud to offer a sponsored Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) course. The course will be offered by Crested Butte Outdoors and this course is certified by Wilderness Medical Associates.
The course will run all day Thursday - Sunday, April 29 - May 2, 2010. We will be hosting the training at Tolt-MacDonald Park in Carnation, Wa. There are plenty of yurts and campgrounds available for those who would like to stay on site. Cost will be extra.
This course is highly valuable for anyone who enjoys the outdoors. The 4 days of instruction are a combination of textbook and hands-on scenarios to practice assesment and treatment techniques.
Here are a couple of great reasons to take a WAFA course:
- All students who successfully complete the WAFA course will receive a certification card from Wilderness Medical Associates. Certification remains valid for three years. Within three years, graduates may recertify by way of a two day course.
- The four day WAFA course can be used to recertify Wilderness First Responder and Wilderness EMT certificates from WMA, WMI, NOLS, and SOLO.
- Wilderness Medical Associates' WAFA course meets or exceeds all requirements of other similarly named courses (ie. Red Cross Advanced First Aid).
- ....and a WAFA or equivilant certified person is required on all Bushwhacker outings. The more members that we have certified will make outings easier to accomplish.
The cost of the course is $395. The fee includes four days of top-notch instruction, books and other materials, and lunch each day.
Students must be at least 16 years of age to participate in this course (16 and 17 year olds must have proof of parental consent). No previous medical training is required. You also do not need to be a member of the club.
More information is available on the WAFA Class website.
