Snow Anchors and Belays Refresher

The Snow Anchors and Belays Refresher is a new outing designed to give club members a chance to review and strengthen their snow anchor placement and belaying skills. This free one-day outing is open to all club members who have completed the Basic Glacier Climbing course or equivalent. Anchors and belays are an important part of glacier and steep snow travel, and we'll have a fun day in the mountains improving these skills.

The outing consists of practice for the following skills: Basic glacier climbing knots, snow picket placement, dead-man placement, multiple anchor points and balancing the load, Climber/belayer protocol, belay technique with ATC, boot axe belay, sweep & jab arrest. The outing also provides an opportunity to get to know fellow club members while preparing for the coming climbing season.

Prerequisite

Note that this is not a basic climbing course, but rather a practice outing for those who have learned these skills already. You must have completed the Bushwhacker Basic Glacier Climbing Course or equivalent.

Cost

There is no cost but these outings are for members only.

Schedule

Due to circumstances the club will not offer Snow Anchors and Belays in 2008. Look for this next year.
