Top-Roped Rock Climbing Outing

May 28, 2006

A new outing for the club, a day of top-roped rock climbing in the beautiful Icicle Canyon, Saturday May 27. Come on out for a fun, low-key day at the crags.

UPDATE: The clubs first top-toped rock climbing outing is in the history books. Angela, Daniel and Fred came out for routes set up by Randy K and Doxey. We climbed three routes at Mountaineers Dome then we did Gibson's Crack. Despite threatening rain, we accomplished all we meant to do and had a nice day out.

Bushwhacker Wildflower Hike

May 13, 2006

The second annual BWCC Wildflower Hike will be Saturday May 13. We'll head to the Yakima Skyline Rim trail in search of dessert wildflowers, which, if history holds true, will be blooming beautifully at that time.

UPDATE: Yay, Shauna organized a great hike! biggrin.gif Eight Bushwhackers went to the hills above the Yakima River to view desert wildflowers. A big success - lots of wildflowers including bitterroot, oregon grape, lupine, wallflower, and many others. Lots of eastside sunshine without the heat of summer, good timing. Also a great way for participants to get to know each other better. Photos to come. Way to go Shauna!

Mount Erie and Vesper Peak

I asked Chris H about his weekend.

Did some rock climbing with Kevin H over at Mount Erie. We then proceeded up to Rosario Park and practiced crevasse rescue scenarios for a few hours. Yesterday, Melissa, Trevor, and my nephew Kalen made it to the top of Vesper Peak. It appears that we may have been the first ones in there this year.

Here are a few photos from their Vesper climb - nice!

Seth and Doxey tackle Castle Rock

Seth and Doxey took a beautiful Friday to visit Castle Rock in Tumwater Canyon, and stepped right up for Canary. Doxey led the strenuous first pitch. Then Seth led the second pitch, which features the infamous step-across start ohmy.gif Yikes!! But Seth dispatched the problem with aplomb tongue.gif. The pair then climbed the classic Saber. A fine day at the crags for a couple of good pals.

May Club Night - Potluck!

May 10, 2006

The Club Night for May is a potluck at Cynthia and Doxey's house. Come on out for a fun evening!

UPDATE: Hey, that was fun! We had about 25 or 30 people here. Lots of good food and homebrew, and talk about climbing and mountains. And there was a lot of meeting and greeting as "oldtimers" in the community got to meet our new people, including students in the photo course and the glacier course. Looking forward to the next one! laughing.gif

Wilderness Advanced First Aid

May 01, 2006

The club will be sponsoring a Wilderness Advanced First Aid course in Leavenworth in April. First aid is a crucial skill for mountaineering. I urge each of you to participate in this great opportunity!

UPDATE: Wow, the WAFA course was amazing! The facility is cool, the content is substantial and important, and the instructors at Rescue Specialists are top-notch. We had fifteen club members complete the course and receive their WAFA certifications.smile.gif Fantastic!
