Cragging at Vantage

Frederic and Doxey made a day of cragging at Vantage. Good times! We climbed Choss Master and other routes. Also, Frederic got to lead his first bolted 5.8, the aptly named Vantage Point. Fantastic!

October Club Night was Knots Night

October 19, 2006

Our October Club Night was held last Wednesday night at Randy K.'s house. Randy was a great host, and led us through practice of basic knots for rock climbing. We had six in all, and it was great to learn new knots or practice old ones. Thanks Randy!

OK Doxey, my list is below.
Fred

1 Leadership Course - a set of lectures and field trips challenging the aspiring trip leader
2 Intermediate Glacier Climbing Course - beyond the basics; leading, steep terrain, crevasse puzzles
3 Crevasse Rescue Clinic - learn or refresh basic techniques then mix them in difficult situations
4 Avalanche Awareness - an avy course concentrating on avoidance rather than rescue
5 Cragging Course - a rock climbing course covering basic skills such as rappelling
6 Alaska Mountaineering Outing - two weeks of glacier travel and peak-bagging in the Alaska Range
7 Conservation - hard work but fun and social; trail-building, beach cleanups, crag cleanups, and more
8 Guide Tricks for Climbers - aimed at trad rock leaders; techniques that guides employ
9 Scrambling/Cross Country - an off-trail mountain travel course, but less technical so no ropes needed

October 11, 2006

We met at Steve's house. Attending were Jim, Seth, Doxey, Katie, Perry, Allen, and Steve.

We dispatched approving the previous meetings minutes and updated the action item list.

We spent half the meeting discussing Board positions, deliberating about the options. Katie is resigning her seat, so there was one more seat than we earlier anticipated. In the end, we chose Laurie, Doug and Frederic.

Allen will be taking over as Treasurer for the club. The other officerships will wait until the new Board composition begins.

We then turned our attention to the Annual Club Meeting. Doxey will be formulating a plan for the meeting.

Discussion of the club logo was next. Doxey wants to revisit the logo and see if we can take it to the next level, and there was talk about how we mght do that.

Shauna had asked that the Board consider a fund raiser for Olympic Mountain Rescue. They are in need of a new truck. Doxey brought it before the Board, and all agreed it is worthy of our effort and time. The effort wont really begin for a couple months, and there are other possibilities as well.

The Board scheduled the next meeting and adjourned.

Seth and Ian visit Index

October 03, 2006

On Saturday, Seth and Ian, their friend Dylan, and Dylan's Dad(!), met up for some sunny rock climbing in Index. They climbed a route named Slow Children, a 5.10d finger crack. Wow!

Dylan leads the pitch

Ian ponders the route

More Cragging at Tieton

October 02, 2006

Doxey, Doug H, Sandy and Randy K piled into Sandy's car and trekked over to Tieton's Royal Columns Sunday. Sandy led Good Timer and Western Front. Randy led Double Trouble and Slacker. I was feeling really good, and so led Mushmaker, 5.7, and Jam Exam, 5.9. Royal Columns was not at all crowded - two other parties in the morning, and in the afternoon we had the crag all to ourselves. All agreed, it was a great day out.
