Club Night schedule change

January 03, 2007

Next Tuesday night, January 9th, is Club Night. Doug H will show slides from Bolivia. I hope you got the Evite - please let me know if you did not.

Club Night schedule will be different in 2007. In the past it has been second Wednesday of the month, and that was successful. However, I had numerous requests to let it "float" around a bit, because some people simply can never make Wednesday nights. That's cool. So this year we will shift to a more flexible schedule, where Club Night occurs one night during the second week of the month.

So look for Club Nights during the second week of each month.

Board of Directors meeting

December 15, 2006

The Board of Directors met Thursday night. A brief overview of the meeting follows.

We discussed plans for the telemark clinic and the avalanche course.

We discussed formation of leadership training for the club.

The Board approved a proposal for multi-year memberships and out of state memberships.

The Board decided to renew our membership in the Friends of Northwest Avalanche Center. This is our third year for corporate membership in this fine organization.

We also chose to join, at the non-profit corporation level, the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. We will be embarking on more Leave No Trace initiatives in 2007.

Annual Club Meeting Report

November 14, 2006

We had a good Annual Club Meeting. It was held at Northgate Community Center. I did a PowerPoint presentation about the club - where we are and where we are going. There was good feedback from club members, and new ideas came out.

Here is my PowerPoint presentation. If you prefer, you can view the presentation as a no-frills pdf file.

October 19, 2006

Our October Club Night was held last Wednesday night at Randy K.'s house. Randy was a great host, and led us through practice of basic knots for rock climbing. We had six in all, and it was great to learn new knots or practice old ones. Thanks Randy!

Seth Pollack photo published in Alpinist magazine

February 27, 2006

Well I'm so excited I'm just beside myself. Our buddy Seth Pollack has a photograph published in Alpinist magazine this month - a full two-page spread! The stunning photograph of Alaska's Mount Bradley was taken a few years ago in the Ruth Gorge. Light and shadow accentuate the snow flutings and sheer rock walls. The awesome face of Bradley soars thousands of feet into the brilliant blue sky. Don't miss it!

And in case you haven't seen it recently, visit the Seth Pollack Photography website. Its fantastic! Way to go Seth! smile.gif

Updated club website is now a webblog!

January 13, 2006

Today we announce another significant upgrade to the club website. The site is now a webblog. On first glance it may appear to be a merely cosmetic alteration, but actually the change is much more fundamental and functional.

Blogs allow an author to create entries without specialized software, and entries can be made from anywhere on the internet. In addition, we can and will have multiple authors. Another common feature of blogs is the ability of readers to post comments to entries - good stuff!

The old Bushwhacker Newsletter site is now defunct, but the trip reports, feature articles and yes, even the restaurant reviews will be brought forward to this new webblog site. That effort is underway.

There are other bells and whistles on the site, and even more cool stuff is in the works. I hope you enjoy this new site for our club.

Bushwhacker Fundraiser follow-up

January 03, 2006

You may remember that in April 2005 we held a homebrew/potluck fundraiser for Sam Hill crag. The money was raised to support the successful effort to purchase this property in Icicle Canyon. That night more than nine-hundred bucks was put in the jar, and with other Bushwhacker member donations we raised more than one thousand dollars.

You can visit the Washington Climbers Coalition website to get the full story, and note the nice reference to our club on their page. Thanks to all that participated!

Bushwhacker Pub Night, December 14, was fun. We shifted the Pub Night to the Tractor Tavern to join Second Ascent's Tenth Anniversary party. Bushwhackers in attendance were Ian, Doxey, Doug, Carla, Joe, Lisa, Adam and Chad. It was a great party! Remember, the club's Pub Night is held the second Wednesday of every month. Hope to see you next time!

New Website

November 17, 2005

I hope you enjoy the new website for the Bushwhacker Climbing Club. Please invite your friends and neighbors to come here to learn more about the club and our courses.

Many people have asked about the old Bushwhacker Newsletter, and if that will be resurrected. The answer is yes, indeed; in the future we will be incorporating that into this new site.

Annual Club Meeting

The Annual Club Meeting was Tuesday night, November 15, held at Issaquah Brewhouse again this year. It was a fine crowd of about 30 individuals, all meeting and greeting. We conducted our business too; a presentation about the status of the club and plans for the upcoming year. I hope all that attended had fun and learned more about the club.
