Telemark Clinic Success

user-pic

Thanks to everyone who helped me make the 2010 BWCC Telemark Clinic a huge success!

This year we had five determined and stoic students who not only braved the elements of ice and snow storms, but also learned to link free heel turns with grace! Everyone's progress in the sport was amazing and Shauna and I had great time teaching. Thanks Andy, Kathy, Judd, Rebecca, and Kate! See all you Bushwhackers on the slopes!

Mt. Rainier Fourth of July Success

Bushwhacker Rainier Summit 2009.jpgWhat better way to celebrate the Forth of July than a successful summit on a beautiful day?  We had 8 Bushwhackers (3 first timers!) get up the mountain via the Emmons route.   We then got back to Camp Schurman in time to catch a nap before most of the fireworks north of the mountain.  Thanks to Chris K for leading everyone.

Avalanche Beacon Practice, Feb 7

Jared is leading an avalanche beacon practice session, February 7 at Alpental.  Says Jared:

There will be an Avalanche Beacon Practice club outing on Saturday, February 7th, at Alpental.  This will be a chance for those who are rusty with their beacon search skills to get some practice, as well as provide an introduction to those who do not have experience with beacon search techniques.  Carrying and knowing how to use a beacon is an important skill for the backcountry traveler venturing into avalanche terrain.

Mount Catherine Loop, Feb 7

Fred R is taking out some folks on a club outing, the Mount Catherine Loop, Saturday February 7.  Says Fred:

Hello All, The Mt. Catherine loop is 15 kilometers and follows the Snoqualmie Nordic Center trails.  We would start at the Silver Fir lift parking lot at 9:00 am.  Normally we would start from Hyak but the lift was damaged in the recent slide.

You need to bring a day pack with puffy coat and extra clothes plus lunch. The entire loop usually takes 3 to 4 hours at a relaxed pace, including lunch.   The group is limited to 6 plus myself.  Please respond to my email to the club if you want to go.  Once we get a list together we can arrange for carpooling.

Top-Roped Rock Climbing Outing

user-pic

A new outing for the club, a day of top-roped rock climbing in the beautiful Icicle Canyon, Saturday May 27. Come on out for a fun, low-key day at the crags.

UPDATE: The clubs first top-toped rock climbing outing is in the history books. Angela, Daniel and Fred came out for routes set up by Randy K and Doxey. We climbed three routes at Mountaineers Dome then we did Gibson's Crack. Despite threatening rain, we accomplished all we meant to do and had a nice day out.
