Crevasse Rescue Seminar

Learn and practice techniques for single rope team crevasse rescue. The seminar will build upon the same steps employed in the 1:1 direct pull method taught in the Basic Glacier Climbing course. This seminar will add/substitute steps for single rope team rescue. A sixteen page crevasse rescue primer will be provided to participants.

Topics will include

  • escaping the tie-in point to execute the rescue
  • use of the Munter hitch/mule knot combination
  • 3:1 mechanical advantage systems
  • 5:1 mechanical advantage systems
  • dropped loop 6:1 systems

Who

Participants will need to have complete the Basic Glacier Climbing course or the equivalent.

What

This seminar consists of two evening classroom sessions and two field outings. The outings will be held rain or shine. If you register for the seminar, attendance at all sessions is obligatory.

When

There will be two sections, each covering the same skills. The first will be held Thursday night April 17 and Sunday April 20. The second will be held Thursday night April 24 and Sunday April 27.

Where

The field session will be at either the Stevens or Snoqualmie Pass area. Evening session location to be determined.

Cost

There is no cost for this seminar, but you must be a member of the club to participate. Anyone that is at least 18 years old is welcome to join at any time at Join the Club!
