For years Bushwhackers have enjoyed the snowy slopes of Mt St Helens on many winter and spring climbs.  Mt St H offers a unique landscape and there is nothing like looking down into the crater from the summit.

Shriner Peak

<photo here> To the east of Mount Rainier lies Shriner Peak.  Though there is a summer trail, we will tackle this one as a spring snow climb.  We will travel up one ridge and down another to create a loop.

This can be a one day outing, or can be held as an overnighter with a snow camp on the summit.  A Shriner Peak overnighter makes a good combination with Barrier Peak the next day.

The summit of Barrier offers panoramic views of Mount Rainier National Park, and in particular the Emmons Glacier.  Bring your ice axe and kicks steps up the ridge to the summit.

We'll leave early to accomplish this one in a day.  We'll hike the road, then up the remnants of an old trail.  After the creek crossing, climb in woods then up a snow ridge to the summit.  Views are of the rugged Mount Triumph area of the North Cascades.

Starting at Diablo, combine trail then cross country travel up to a rounded summit east of Jeanita Lake.  We call this Jeanita Knob, and it offers stunning views of the Colonial Peak region and other peaks of the North Cascades.

This can be done as a one day outing, or for more adventure, a good snowcamp can be put in right atop the Knob.  Then the next day make the crux crossing of a narrow ridge, which then opens up for a stupendous snow hike along Stetattle Ridge with views into the rugged Picket Range of the Cascades.

Benchmark Mountain

<photo here> West Cady Ridge offers splendid alpine walking in spring, with views of the Wild Sky Wilderness area, as well as towering Sloan Peak.  Bring snowshoes for the climb up to the summit of the ridge, Benchmark Mountain.

Sometimes a day outing, this one may be held as overnighter with a snowcamp at the summit.  The descent then creates a loop back to civilization via cross-country travel down a wooded ridge, emerging onto the trails below.
