Tips for Club Outing Organizers

  • Email a Note for Family message to all participants with an outline of the plan. They can then forward that message to their family.
  • Bring a cell phone on the outing.
  • Leave details of your trip with the emergency contact person listed on your Outing Proposal Form.
  • Before leaving town, do a quick equipment check to assure that the team has adequate gear for the outing.
  • Identify to the group the person with first aid/medical certification and ask to be informed of any special health concerns.
  • Establish rendezvous points and communicate to the team how you intend to keep the group together.
  • Designate a rear guard on the hike in and on the hike out.
  • After the hike, be sure that everyone is back to their cars. No one leaves until everyone is off the trail.
  • Any information about any injuries or accidents should be provided to the Outings Committee as soon as possible.
  • After the outing is complete, send a message to the Outings Committee to let them know how things went. The committee is particularly interested in what went well and any suggestions for improving the outing next time.
